Dr. Pavel Filev preserves a family tradition that has been engaged in the production of Ohrid pearls since 1923. Original Ohrid pearls, which are also worn by crowned heads, including the English queen, can only be found in the shops of two families, one of which is the Filev family. Many mistakenly think that Ohrid pearls are gathered from shells, but this is not the case. Ohrid pearls are artificially made from a special emulsion derived from the scales of a large fish that lives in Lake Ohrid. The true recipe for making this emulsion is known only to the Filev and Talev families.
