Cemerski Gligor

Gligor Čemerski is one of the most important contemporary Macedonian artists. He was born in 1940 in Kavadarci, he died on April 2, 2016 in Skopje. He was educated in Skopje, Belgrade and Paris. In 1965, he completed his postgraduate studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade. In 1969 and 1970, as a French scholarship holder, he studied in Paris, where he also later created a lot. In recent years he was one of the permanent painters of the Galerie du Fleuve in Paris. He also trained in Egypt, Greece, Italy, Sweden and the USA. His style was influenced by Expressionism and Orthodox icons. In his extremely rich career as a painter, sculptor and graphic artist, he left behind many monumental works. Among other things, he made mosaics in Stopanska banka (1971) and the Freedom Monument in Kočana (1981).
