Primožič - Tošo Josip

JOSIP PRIMOŽIČ - TOŠO was a Slovenian gymnast, theater worker and painter. He was born on February 7, 1900 in Ljubljana and died on August 18, 1985 in Maribor. After completing the bourgeois school in 1931/32 and the painting course, he created over 1,600 paintings and portraits, and had around 160 exhibitions (of which 28 solo) at home and abroad. He created 65 scenes for drama, opera and ballet performances. He ended his fruitful creative work in the field of art as the director of technical workshops at SNG Maribor. Today Toša Primožiča Street in Maribor is named after him. In 2012, he was admitted to the Temple of Slovenian Sports Heroes. He was an extremely keen gymnast, so much so that he was even invited to the selection competition to make up the line for the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924. He lined up and, like a complete beginner, took part in his first Games. At the 26th World Championships in Lyon, he was already the third best Slovenian gymnast and became the world runner-up on the pole vault and won second place with his chosen event. In 1928, at his second Olympic Games in Amsterdam, he won two medals, silver on parallel bars and bronze as a member of the gymnastics team.
